Frequently asked questions

My alarm didn't ring. What should I do?

Open OakClock: if a "Your alarms won't ring" banner appears, tap "Open Settings" and allow notifications and alarms.

Android: some phones stop apps running in the background. In your battery settings, allow OakClock to run without restrictions.

iPhone: on iOS 26, allow alarms (AlarmKit) so a backup alarm rings even if the app is closed. On older versions, don't force-quit the app from the app switcher.

The sound is too loud or too quiet.

On Android, the alarm uses the phone's "Alarm" volume: adjust it in your sound settings. On iPhone, use the volume buttons.

Gradual volume makes the sound start very softly: set its duration (0 to 5 minutes) in each alarm, or choose "None" for full volume right away.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. All sounds are bundled with the app, which works entirely offline, even in airplane mode.

How do I change an alarm's sound?

Tap the alarm, then "Change" in the Sound section. Filter by category and tap ▶ to listen to a sound before picking it.

How does snooze work?

Turn it on per alarm and choose its length, from 1 to 20 minutes. When the alarm rings, tap "Snooze": it will ring again with the same sound, its volume rising gently.

Why does the app ask for permissions?

Only to ring on time with the screen locked. Each permission is explained in our privacy policy.

Can I use my own sounds?

Not yet: OakClock offers 86 hand-picked nature sounds. Tell us which sounds you'd like to see next!

How do I delete my data?

Your alarms are stored only on your phone. Delete them in the app, or uninstall OakClock to erase everything.

Where do the sounds come from?

From La Sonothèque, a library of royalty-free (CC0) sounds recorded out in nature.
